It seems despite the recent retirement tweet, the UFC star Conor McGregor is ready to fight again. According to reports, McGregor was seen training at SBG Ireland on May 6, 2019.
Several weeks after the retirement announcement, the former two-time division champion Conor McGregor was spotted training his ass off in his MMA gym in Ireland. A video surfaced on the internet where Conor had a sparring session with Hans Molenkamp, founder of the MMA equipment company, Triumph. Molenkamp, who runs the Monster Energy combat program, is also a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and trains with the world’s best fighters. This hard sparring session suggests that Conor McGregor is ready to get back into the Octagon.
Hans and Conor have maintained close ties with one another for years. Conor invited Hans to Straight Blast Gym for a workout and he reportedly looked sharp during sparring, even cracking Hans in the face. According to close sources, McGregor is training and he is ready to fight now. Although he wants everything to line up correctly- opponent, place and of course, money!
On March 26, 2019, the former division champion McGregor surprised the UFC fans by announcing his retirement from “Mixed Martial Art” on Twitter. McGregor has become one of the biggest faces in MMA and is currently ranked 8th on the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) pound-for-pound list. The controversial Irish fighter holds a 21-4-0 record and UFC belts in two divisions. McGregor, “The Notorious,” last fought in October of 2018 and lost the lightweight championship to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Recently, UFC legend Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone again called out McGregor after his win at UFC Ottawa. However, McGregor has not yet responded as he badly wants to rematch with lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Earlier in 2016 also McGregor tweeted that he’s walking away from the sport but he returned a few months later for another epic bout against Nate Diaz. Tapology reports that five of the UFC’s six top-selling pay-per-view event have been headlined by McGregor. And for this reason, the Irish fighter wants UFC to give him a bigger piece of the pie if they want him to return to the Octagon. Earlier before announcing his retirement, McGregor, 30, said “I’m ready to fight. I’ve said that, no problem. If the UFC wants me to slide into that co-main event and help, what that is, me sliding into the co-main event, it’s boosting their brand-over-fighter rhetoric that they have. There’s no problem with that. But if they want me to push that—and I have no problem pushing that—give me my rightful shares in the UFC Company. That’s all I ask.”
However, UFC president Dana White has already made it clear that McGregor can buy his shares like all the other investors. “Listen, a lot of people bought in on the UFC- banks, celebrities, and everything else. Listen, you want a piece? He’s got a lot of money. Come in and buy a piece, man,” said White.
